March 22nd, 2008 — Capitalism
One of our peeps, The Wine Commonsewer, provides us with a lesson in free market economies. It’s explained so clearly that even those edumacated in government schools can follow along without the aid of crayon-drawn visual aids.
In a free market economy those who make bad economic decisions fail.
Failure and correction is what keeps a market economy on a relatively even keel.

“You and I must live within our means, but Washington politicians act as if they have absolutely no responsibility to do something as basic as paying their own way-to make sure they don’t spend more than they have, confident that somebody else will foot the bill when the party ends.” -Rebecca Hagelin
“Our government today is larger than it ever has been in history. Spending has grown more in the past five years than any time since Franklin Roosevelt was in the White House. And our leaders in Washington have created new entitlements for the first time in decades. Lyndon Johnson would be proud.” -Steve Forbes
“Once born, a government program is nearly impossible to kill. That’s mostly because politicians are spending our money and not their own.” -Cal Thomas
“Most liberalism is angst-and guilt-ridden, seeing moral equivalence everywhere.” -Charles Krauthammer
“The economics of tax cuts are really quite simple: Capital is freed for reinvestment in business. Thus, if a business owner is taxed at a lower rate, he has more money for expanding, hiring and buying more equipment and supplies. On the other hand, forced redistribution of business wealth achieves the exact opposite. To see this truism at work, one need look no further than Michigan, whose economy thrived under the tax-cutting policies of three-term Republican governor John Engler, but now ranks dead last in nearly every economic category under tax-happy Democrat Jennifer Granholm.” – The Federalist
“The only thing that can cure poverty is wealth… [Y]ou might think that the left would be as obsessed with the creation of wealth as they are with the redistribution of wealth. But you would be wrong… While the creation of wealth may be more effective for enabling millions of people to rise out of poverty, it provides no special role for the political left, no puffed up importance, no moral superiority, no power for them to wield over others… Things that work for millions of people offer little to the left, and ultimately the left is about the left, not about the people they claim to want to lift out of poverty.” -Thomas Sowell
“Despite claims that the rich get richer and the poor get poorer, poverty is nowhere near the problem it was yesteryear-at least for those who want to work. Talk about the poor getting poorer tugs at the hearts of decent people and squares nicely with the agenda of big government advocates, but it doesn’t square with the facts.” -Walter Williams
This is all economic common sense – which means it has nothing what so ever to do with liberals or their Democrat candidates. – Hank Dagny
March 6th, 2008 — Saving Our Nation, Taxes, Liberal Media, Government, Capitalism, Democrats, Liberals
Liberals have to hate anyone doing better than they are - by definition. Things obviously have to be ‘unfair’ or else the liberal would not be the unhappy failure they are.
Now keep in mind, I am not calling liberals failures. They mentally call themselves that or they would not be liberals. In their minds, they either did not achieve, could not achieve or didn’t do enough with what they did achieve. They are in a word - depressed - 24/7.
At his last State of the Union address, President Bush donned on his conservative robe he misplaced as vetoer his entire presidency. He warned Democrats in Congress (where was this when the Republicans were the power in Congress???) to renew the tax cuts and not add a lot of pork to the Stimulus Package.
Democrats meanwhile – especially those running for president – espouse to increase welfare programs while eliminating the tax cuts that are responsible for the booming economy and record rate of funds entering the nation’s treasury during the Bush presidency.
But along comes a story from the AP (Associated with Al-Jareera Press) that destroys liberal economic theory – and it is reported by a liberal, no less. Intelligent liberals know the truth. That is what makes them enemies of the nation and not just some misguided fools. I’ll let Rush Limbaugh explain the story:
“AP reports that economists are concerned that the affluent are cutting back on spending – which will hurt the economy and quote, “deliver more pain to lower income workers who are dependent on the business of the affluent and their fat tips.”
AP goes on to say, “When the wealthy quit spending, there is a ripple effect across all consumer spending. Households making over $150,000 account for almost 40% of all spending and 67% of all economic activity. Our economy depends on the affluent to spend with enthusiasm because the top 20% earners spend almost five time what the bottom 20% spend. When they stop spending – everybody suffers.”
This is a total vindication of supply side economics and Ronald Reagan! These affluent Americans are the very people liberals hate and say don’t deserve tax cuts. They are not even included in this so called Stimulus Package.
These are the same people who pay for every big government program liberals dream up. Conservatives know this. Liberals know it too, but they can’t dare admit it.
I hope this AP reporter still has a job tomorrow.”
I hope we still have free a country in a decade. Liberals are either mentally ill or evil. Pure and simple. – Hank Dagny
March 3rd, 2008 — Government, Liberal Media, Quotable Quotes, Education System, Democrats, Back To Basics, Capitalism, Liberals
The title explains it all. Of course our freedoms and capitalist system built us to the status of the lone super power in the world. Who is actively trying to throw us from that perch? Why it is radical Islam, communists and our own home-grown liberals.
From the section of Capitalism in my book ‘Liberal Quicksand’.
“We must begin to celebrate collective entrepreneurship.” - Robert Reich, Democrat, Labor Secretary for Bill Clinton
“Capitalism has destroyed our belief in any effective power but that of self-interest backed by force.” - Karl Marx, the father of Communism
Democrats - liberals always agree with Karl Marx.
The concept of capitalism should not take very long to explain. Every real American knows it by instinct. Those in Ann Arbor, Michigan - well the concept may never sink in.
Name some of the best values you can get for your spending dollar. List the products and services you are most happy with in your life. Here’s my list;
Computers
Clothing
Automobiles
Food Choices
Restaurants
Sporting Goods
I’m sure some of yours are in that list too. Now name the products and services you are the most unhappy with. Here’s mine;
Postal Service
Education System
Government Taxpayer Services
Crime Prevention - Rehabilitation
Main Stream Press and Media
Tax System
Which list of items operate - more or less - under a free market system with cut-throat capitalistic competition and which are under government or liberal control - or both?
Capitalism breeds progress. The quest for profit creates the desire to serve others. People don’t build a better mousetrap because they love people and hate mice. They do it for their own self interest of profit- which in turn serves their fellow man well. Very well. This truth is lost on liberals.
When there is no profit incentive to do good work, all you get is failure or at best - mediocrity. Did you notice too that liberals flock to the jobs where performance is not really a requirement?
Know why? Well it is the same reason they want the government nanny state - they lack the self confidence to believe they can ultimately take care of themselves or have no desire to do so. - Hank Dagny

Crooks and Liars – “RNC Chairs Scolds TN GOP Obama Smears”
Using Barack Hussein Obama’s middle name is a smear?
Much like their policies, the liberals are now hiding Obama’s religious roots from the debate. Only Democrats could run a Muslim for president two presidential elections after 9/11 – with a straight face.
Democrats may want to remind themselves of what Barack Hussein said about Saddam Hussein back in October 2002 – hat tip to Liberty Pundit.
“Now let me be clear. I suffer no illusion about Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal man, a ruthless man, a man who butchers his own people to secure his own power. He has repeatedly defied UN resolutions, thwarted UN inspection teams, developed chemical and biological weapons and coveted nuclear capacity. He’s a bad guy. The world and the Iraqi people would be better off without him.”
This is their ‘pure as the driven snow’ on Iraq candidate? Never mind. The cult doesn’t let facts get in the way o their blind allegiance.
From Grouchy’s Libertopia – “The Bubble Boy Babbles”
“The gas for my cars is now at $3.42 per gallon. When Bush came into office, it was $1.05.
It is a direct result of your policies that has caused the price of oil to skyrocket and the oil companies to pocket more money as profits than any other company or industry in history. YOUR industry. YOUR friends.”
Class warfare, class envy, economics ignorance and communist anti-capitalism all rolled into one. What policies are those GL? I’ll tell you what policies. Bush followed liberal policies. Stick with me here GL because I am going to mention economic realities and this is where the liberal mind can’t hang.
World demand for oil has shot up exponentially. That means ‘a lot’ for those of you in Ann Arbor.
Liberals refuse to let American oil companies find new supplies in our country – hence you have to pay more if you want the oil. Bush lamely didn’t push the issue, but rather let environmentalists win the debate. The profit margin has not changed for oil companies – only the volume of business on the same limited supplies.
You want cheaper gas, increase supply. But you really don’t want that, do you GL? According to your environmental argument, a higher gas price means people would drive less – thus helping the global warming issue, correct?
GL – which is it? Do you want cheap oil and lots of driving or expensive oil and no driving?
Guess what, stupid. You don’t get to decide anyway, so don’t hurt yourself thinking about it. Gas costs more, but obviously is not too high or people would have stopped driving as much. THEN the price would go down or freeze on its own. Conversely, when the price does get too high, people will either adapt and quit driving unless absolutely necessary – or what I hope – they throw you communists politically overboard and demand oil companies have a free reign to develop a greater supply.
Either way, the problem is liberals and government intervention in an economic market at liberal’s requests. You want to know who the problem is GL? Buy a mirror. – Hank Dagny

This guy let it fly on Rush Limbaugh today. Been there – done that. Sometimes you just want to find a liberal and beat the insanity out of them. But instead, you vent. Rush answers why these liberals are pathetic people.
Caller: “I have been in business delivering food to Delaware for 30 years. I have done it economically, spectacularly, winning awards and accolades. My credentials are impeccable. But I can no longer deliver food to the table at the price I am bringing it because of Delmarva Power and Light. It is not really their fault. It is our governor. It’s Joe Biden. My gas bill for my restaurant four years ago was $5,500 a month. It was $11,800 this month Rush! What can I do Rush? I have to raise my prices.
These people are out of their minds, Rush. We don’t need free health care. That is not the problem in this country. We are being crippled with energy. We can’t bring oil out of ANWAR. We can’t drill off of your estate at Palm Beach. No one wants to look at a derrick.
There is something crazy taking place. The price of my kilowatt is a dime, because they want to put the CO2 into a cave and save it. They can deliver it at three cents. American Electric Power has been in business for a hundred years. They know what to do.
Governors are telling them what to do, how to build a plant, not to use coal, demonizing oil. A woman named Jane Fonda sits on a canon and stops an entire world from delivering nuclear power – with this movie she made.
How does this happen Rush? How does this happen? How do intelligent Americans can allow themselves to have 103 nuclear power plants in this country – and not build another one since 1975? When there is no green house gas bullshit from nuclear energy?
Why can’t we build nuclear? We could create 40,000 jobs by bringing oil in from ANWAR. We bring it in by a pipeline, not with a tanker – no spill. What is going on?
Twenty-nine states with twenty-nine states different grades of gasoline? We are paying over $3 a gallon for regular. I am not talking about me or about you. I am talking about working America. They think they need free healthcare? They need $2 a gallon gas and this country’s economy will explode.
They are heating their homes. Do you think there is a sub-prime crisis Rush? Yes. But that is not the problem. They bought the house thinking their heat bill would be $250. Now it’s $390. They have to spend an extra $50 at the pump each week. So they stop coming out to my restaurant. They stop buying clothes they don’t really need, they stop buying vacations.
Rush, there is a domino effect taking place – and the problem is energy. We bring down the price of plasma television sets. I bought one of the first ones – I paid $10000. Now that same TV is $1100. We bring down the price of phones. We bring down the price of computers. Why do we bring up the price of energy?
Why do we allow the Sierra Club to run this country? These people are walking thru the country and telling us to ride a bicycle? I need Larry David to drive around for four years in Curb Your Enthusiasm with Prius. What is going on Rush? We are out of our minds.
Young people trying to start families in starter homes are getting energy bills that are wrecking their budgets. Nothing is more important than energy. Energy is what makes this world tick. We are kowtowing to dictators to ask them if we can dig here – dig there?
Why not drill in Alaska. Oh no. You might kill a caribou. This is nuts! This doesn’t make any sense. How do we allow these idiots to get on television and talk about foreign oil? We need to get politicians and government out of the energy business!
I knew in 1980 we were not going to drill another oil well in this country. I bought Esso stock back before they became Exxon. They are a great company Rush, with great dividends, so I get my gas basically for free. Rush, they have twenty-seven energy projects going on in this world today. Zero in North America.
Why, why is this allowed? How do we stay captured by a moron who wants to save an owl, a bird, a fish, a dog, a snake, a rat? What about my grandchildren? What is going on, Rush?”
Rush: “These people are willing useful idiots, who want meaning in their lives –they want to matter. They want to think that what they are doing is helping somebody or something. The answer is guilt. People are running around with the guilt of prosperity or the guilt of whatever.”
The left has successfully got the environmental movement into a religious movement. We have to challenge these people and make them tell the American people what their real objective is – and that is to make everyone impoverished and needing government. – Hank Dagny
February 16th, 2008 — Saving Our Nation, Quotable Quotes, Republicans, Democrats, Capitalism, Liberals
“Conservative principles are needed now, more than ever. We face a new generation of challenges - challenges that threaten our prosperity, our security and our future. I’m convinced that unless America changes course, we could become the “France” of the 21st century. France is still a great nation, but not the leader of the world. Not the Super-power. And to me, for the United States to become like France is unthinkable.
Look, it was a while ago, Shimon Perez came to Boston for a visit. He was asked what he thought about the War in Iraq. “First,” he said, “I have to put something in context. America is unique in the history of the world.
In the history of the world, whenever there has been conflict, the nation that wins takes land from the nation that loses. One nation in history laid down hundreds of thousands of lives and took no land. No land from Germany, no land from Korea, no land from Japan. America is unique in the sacrifice it has made for liberty - for itself and for freedom loving people around the world.”
And Colin Powell added, “The only land we took after the last great conflict was enough land to bury our dead.”
The best ally peace has ever known and will ever know, is a strong America.” – Mitt Romney
Great speech, but then he endorses McCain so he can stay on the good side of the Republi-socialist-can Party, so he can run again in 2012 and defeat the Demo-communist-crat Party. But that is a topic for another day.
Liberals can look at the greatness that is the United States - the finest country ever on the face of the planet - and see a place that needs to be ‘changed’ into a communist dictatorship, is a mystery beyond comprehension. I understand liberal weakness. I understand liberal fear of the responsibility for one’s self. I understand liberals need for everything to be the same.
What I can’t understand is why they do not see that liberalism doesn’t work. It never has worked and will never work. That is why I say liberalism is a mental illness. Pure and simple. - Hank Dagny

“We have the right, as individuals, to give away as much of our own money as we please in charity; but as members of Congress we have no right so to appropriate a dollar of the public money.” —Davy Crockett
Exactly Mr. Crockett, but your nation has fallen in love with socialism.
“I just think it’s immoral to [cut taxes], not to mention fiscally irresponsible… I just think it’s immoral.” —NPR’s Nina Totenberg
Isn’t NPR paid for by government money? That explains why Nina is even working. Nina thinks taking other people’s property – by the force of her government – is moral.
“Economic ignorance, misconceptions and superstition drive us toward totalitarianism because they make us more willing to hand over greater control of our lives to politicians. That diminishes our liberties. Remember the gasoline price controls of the 1970s? The price controls caused shortages. To deal with the shortages, purchases were restricted. Then national highway speed limits were enacted. Then there were more calls for smaller and less-crashworthy cars.
In the recent gasoline supply shocks, we didn’t see the shortages, long lines and closed gas stations of the 1970s. Why? Prices were allowed to perform their duty as the function of allocation — get people to use less gas and suppliers to provide more. Economic ignorance is to politicians what idle hands are to the devil. Both provide the workshop for the creation of evil.” —Walter Williams
Dr. Williams, it doesn’t matter. The voters have short memories. They vote the Democrats in – suffer mightily – and then vote them back out. The only problem is – this time – we won’t be allowed to vote them out.
I have to add, even John Maynard Keynes, father of that child of perdition, demand-side economics, maintained that 25 percent was the highest tolerable rate for income taxation. Our business taxes are the HIGHEST in the world and our personal taxation stands at over 50%. That is personal private property your government is stealing from Americans, my fellow Americans.
“Democrats are the same people who rediscover poverty every election and promise to cure it. They’ve cured it so often that they’ve now made a profession of it. They thrive on failures, on righting wrongs, aiding victims, and so forth. It must be understood that success in those tasks would put them out of business. No matter how many programs are set up and operating, their proponents never claim success for them. To do so would be to say the problems have been solved, meaning the programs are no longer needed. And the programs, not the problems, are their very reason for being.” —Ronald Reagan
It is worse than that Mr. President. Democrats want the power over the people – as their caretaker. Your Republican Party has joined in this effort.
Things are going to get very very ugly very very soon. – Hank Dagny

An American, who happens to the Arab, Psychologist, Wafa Sultan tells it like it is – and just destroyed radical Islam in the last post. The Muslim cleric could only look away sheepishly and smirk – and then ask his debate opponent if she was a godless person.
This type of debate sounded exactly like the pattern of me debating a liberal. Read and see what I mean.
Hank Dagny: “The clash we are witnessing around the world is not a clash of ideas or a clash of policies. It is a clash between two opposites, between two styles of government. It is a clash between a mentality that belongs to the Dark Ages and another mentality that brings along prosperity to the 21st century. It is a clash between liberty and bondage, between wealth and starvation, between rationality and ideology, between civility and barbarity. It is a clash between freedom and oppression, between democracy and dictatorship. It is a clash between human rights on one hand, and the violation of these rights, on the other hand. It is a clash between those who treat citizens like children and cattle, and those who treat them like adults and human beings. What we see today is not a clash of ideas. Ideas do not clash, but compete.”
CNN News: “I understand from your words that what is happening today is a clash between the Constitution of the United States and capitalism, and the backwardness and ignorance of the Liberals?”
Hank: “Yes, that is what I mean.”
CNN: “Who came up with the concept of a clash of governments? Was it not George Bush? It was not Hillary. I would like to discuss this issue if you don’t mind.”
Hank: “The Liberals are the ones who began this expression. The Liberalss are the ones who began the clash of governments. Hillary Clinton said, “We’re going to take things away from you on behalf of the common good.” When the Liberals divided the people into minority groups, and called to them fight others until they believe in what they themselves believe, they started this clash, and began this war. In order to stop this war, they must re-examine their Marxist books and curricula, which are full of calls for revolution and the ignoring of the Constitution as written.
Liberals have flat out said that they want other people’s property. What on the face of this earth allows Liberals to vote themselves other people’s property? They call them “the rich”, another time they call them the ‘winners of life’s lottery,’ and yet another times they call them racists, bigots, or they call them Christians – who wish to make everyone believe in God.
Who can possibly believe that? I don’t recall the forced marches to churches. It is certainly the liberals who bring up race, gender and fail to donate to charities. What gives liberals the right to force other people to live how they want to live, drive the cars they want to drive or pay for other people’s very existence?
Bernie Horn: “Are you a Nazi?”
Hank: “You can say whatever you like. My personal properties and wealth do not concern you. Liberal, you can believe in stones as long as you don’t throw them at me. You are free to give money to whoever you want, pay for anybody’s life if you want, but other people’s property is not your concern - whether they have a lot or a little. Let people keep their property and do with it as they will. It is called freedom.
The United States in just over 200 years became the world’s lone Super Power thru the power of capitalism. The world respects us, but also is jealous of us. Instead of copying what works, the world stays with the liberal model – in various forms – which is why they can’t be near as prosperous as the United States. Humanity owes most of the discoveries and science of the 19th and 20th centuries to the United States. Millions of people scattered throughout the world, live in greater freedom and live better lives because of our Constitution and our capitalist system. – end
What part of the failed history of liberalism - over the entire length of mankind – do liberals fail to grasp? Apparently, all of it. Being a liberal is the easiest and most gutless choice a person can make. It frees them from all responsibility or the need to come up with solutions that work. Caring about things and waiting to be taken care of is enough.
Liberalism is a mental illness. Nothing else explains it. – Hank Dagny
January 5th, 2008 — Environmentalists, Liberal Media, Taxes, Democrats, Current Affairs, Back To Basics, Capitalism, Liberals
Obviously with the increased industrialization and modernization of both China and India – with their billions of citizens – the demand for oil world wide continues to rise.
But in the great and powerful United States, we have the ability to get our own oil and increase the domestic supply. This would help ease the burden on relying on foreign oil and stabilize prices here at home. So what is preventing this obvious solution?
Three reasons why prices continue to climb in regards to our basic trasportation were exposed in the MSPAM (main stream press and media) that have nothing to do with the natural laws of supply and demand. Of course how these items were reported did nothing to explain how they greatly affect the cost of gasoline, other petroleum products or our vehicles. That was left up to me to educate the citizens.
That is why I blog.
Nancy Pelosi proclaimed Democrats would push thru $21 billion in tax increases on domestic oil companies.
This legislation also targets car manufacturers to raise gas mileage on their vehicles – which will raise engineering and manufacturing costs.
Meanwhile up in Alaska, a group of environmentalist whackos asked the extremely liberal 9th Circuit Court of Appeals to block Shell Oil from exploring for new oil reserves in the Artic Circle. They claim the noise would bother the bowhead whale.
So there you have it. Not only are liberals blocking the chances of increasing the supply of oil to the market, but they are also increasing the price of gas and the automobiles that use them.
As already proven on this site, businesses do not pay taxes or government demanded regulations. You do. The company simply adds it to the price you pay.
Liberalism costs you in money and freedom – every single time. Pure and simple. – Hank Dagny
