It must be an election year as politicians fall all over themselves to show you how much they care about you.
McCain and Hillary say they want to give you the summer off from the federal taxes on gasoline.
Barack KKK God Damn America Hussein Obama stays true to his liberal beliefs. I got to give this little racist elitist kudos for that. After all, do not forget it is liberal Democrats who say the taxes should be higher - so you selfish Americans will start buying hybrids, tiny cars, mopeds, and take public transportation.
Bush 43, showing lack of real leadership again, was against the Gas Holiday – before he was for it. He first called it a foolish effort, a waste of time and a political year pandering plan. He said Congress needs to work on a real energy plan that actually starts to address our country’s need to produce our own oil.
He was right. But he must have heard that the ignorant Americans were aghast that he would not lower the taxes so they could more easily afford to take their kids on a summer vacation. He realized the Democrats would run their standard “mean old Republicans” ads – ad nauseam.
Remember, it is the Democrats who want to gasoline tax you onto a bicycle, and it is Bush who – instead of educating the American people like Reagan would have – caves in to the pressure. The winners - the do-nothing Congress and the talking heads that get to shrug their shoulders and say, “we tried,” – and then blame their opponents for the failure.
Same old – Same old. The losers in this – the taxpayer, the consumer, the citizen.
The answer is to ‘permanently’ cut gas taxes, more oil exploration, a greater supply of crude, more refineries with one blend of gas – which means more jobs and lower prices.

President Reagan still would educate.
That gas tax hike you linked nicely was passed by a Democrat House and barely made it thru the Senate.

So, in other words, Reagan gave into the Democrats on a gas tax (anti-American), which his advisors told him he would lose on anyway, in favor of a national defense system (Constitutional), that the Democrats opposed (anti-American).
Oh really, thanks for allowing me to re-visit history - which shows us that liberals have not changed. They are still anti-defense and pro-taking money, property and freedom from citizens.

The author of the book you reference is either as dumb as you or just lies as much.
It takes a two-thirds majority in both houses to overide a veto and Reagan and Republicans had a 55-45 majority in the 98th Congress.
